Eligibility

The Hong Kong International Operatic Singing Competition 2022 is open to young professional artists and recent graduates and trainees in the art of western operatic singing of all nationalities.

Applicants must be born within the period of 5 July 1985 to 29 June 2004 (both dates inclusive).

Prize winners at other competitions are eligible to apply.

At all stages of the Competition the jury will look for:

  • Vocal Quality
  • Technical Skill
  • Musical Interpretation
  • Artistic Personality

Each applicant must pay an Application Fee of USD 100 and a transaction fee of USD 8, or the equivalent amount in other currencies according to the exchange rates on the day of the submission via our official Application Fee Payment Page.

Application Procedures

You may submit your application either Online or Offline. The following list shows the clear application procedures. The application is now open and will close on 31 December 2021. Musica Viva reserves the right to extend the closing date.

Online Application

  1. Prepare a link to video recording(s) of the Applicant’s performance.
  2. Pay an Application Fee of USD 100 and a transaction fee of USD 8, or the equivalent amount in other currencies according to the exchange rates on the day of the submission.
  3. Email your Application Attachments to competition@musicavivahk.org with the email subject as “HKIOSC 2022 Application – Your last name, Your first name“.
  4. Filling in the online Application Form.
  5. You will receive an email within 5 working days to confirm your application has been processed.

Offline Application

  1. Prepare a link to video recording(s) of the Applicant’s performance.
  2. Pay an Application Fee of USD 100 and a transaction fee of USD 8 here, or the equivalent amount in other currencies according to the exchange rates on the day of the submission.

Accommodation and Transportation

Competitors selected for the Semi-final Round should be present in Hong Kong in Summer 2022.

Competitors must arrange and cover their own round-trip travel for the Competition. The total cost of bringing the Competitor’s own piano accompanist for the Semi-Final Round will be the responsibility of the Competitor.

The Organiser will provide Competitors with free accommodation during the Semi-Final and Final Round of the Competition in 2022.

Programme Selection and Repertory

Competitors must submit their complete programmes for both the Semi-Final Round and the Final Round.

For the Semi-Finals, Competitors must also send copies of vocal scores of the music of their chosen programmes, in the correct key with any cuts and variations clearly marked. This requirement is to ensure that compatible and appropriate piano accompaniment will be provided by the Organiser and to facilitate judgement by the Jury.

No changes to programmes will be accepted after 8 April 2022.

Competitors must choose different programmes from the Repertory for their performances in the Semi-Final and Final Rounds of the Competition.
